Sunday night, many of the music industry's big names came together to celebrate each other and pay tribute to the late Whitney Houston. The Grammy Awards is the most important award ceremony for the who's who of music. The red carpet for this event is as talked about as the Academy Awards red carpet but, not for the same reason.
After many years of watching the Grammy Awards' red carpet, I came to the conclusion that it is an event for people who believe that any press is good press. Whether they look ridiculous or not, their sole focus is to be talked about for as long as possible after the event. Those people figured that the best way to achieve that is by dressing in the most absurd garments in order to end up on worst dressed lists all over the Internet. Unfortunately, it works like a charm. I slightly feel ashamed that it took me this long to realize their little scheme.
Fortunately for all fashion lovers, some celebrities took the time to make sure that they looked gorgeous and well put together. Scroll down for my picks for Best and Worst dressed of the event and stay tuned for the next post as I will be paying tribute to the Whitney Houston.
BEST DRESSED: Rihanna
The "We found Love" singer surprised me by looking simply and effortlessly elegant during Sunday night's festivities. She donned a stunning silk custom Armani gown which she helped design. The dress had a gorgeous neckline that was perfectly appropriate for the festivities. It had a dramatic open back and a mermaid silhouette. Although I'm still trying to understand why her hair is styled in that manner, Riri pulls of this look impeccably.
My other pics for BEST DRESSED include Jessie J who looked stunning in a metallic Julien Macdonald gown, Kate Beckinsale in a Zuhair Murad mini, Kelly Rowland in a custom blush Alberta Ferretti gown. I was extremely surprised by Amber Rose. The model looked stunning in a vibrant one shoulder yellow gown with a daring slit. Grammy Award winner Adele looked elegant in a black (sparkly) Giorgio Armani quarter sleeve gown. Gwyneth Paltrow showed off her svelte figure in a black Stella McCartney gown with gold accents.
Ladies in BLACK: Black looked absolutely stunning in all of those ladies. My favorite was of course Joy Williams' (first) greek inspired gown.
These four ladies added shine and sparkle to the red carpet. Kelly Osbourne looked STUNNING in a one shoulder Tony Ward gown, she has truly taken red carpets by storm as she looked stunning during the entire award season. I am getting a bit tired of country singer Carrie Underwood's sparkly gowns. She looked decent in a long-sleeved white Gomez-Gracia gown. Her black Caovilla clutch is too contrasting for the gown. Taylor Swift surprised me by staying away from the sparkles and going for a demure Zuhair Murad gold gown with embroidery. The singer ditched her signature tight curls and red lips for a simple chignon and nude lips. She looked absolutely stunning.
COULD HAVE BEEN BETTER: Fergie's sheer lace Jean Paul Gaulthier couture gown could have looked stunning on the singer had she lined the orange frock. Sporting the garment as it was presented on the runway was a big mistake on her part and I think it's quite un-tasteful. Katie Perry's straight of the runway Elie Saab gown is gorgeous but, the blue hair makes the entire look "tacky". I think we've all had enough of the hair and visible roots. Russian singer Sasha Gradiva's pink mermaid gown would have looked absolutely STUNNING if she had left the terminator arm at home. Diana Ross...the Grammy winner could have opted for a simpler gown as the rushing and extra fabric ruins the dress.
WORST DRESSED
I usually do not comment on worst dressed contenders because they purposely dress in a way that will land them on the worst dressed list in order to be talked about. However, I have to comment about Anne V; she may be a Victoria Secret model, a gorgeous woman... but she cannot dress in a way that is offensive to many viewers. I was terrified that she would flash her vag every time she moved on the red carpet.
